Frequently asked questions
Everything about choosing, installing and using your SimYak eSIM — answered in plain English. Can't spot your question? Our team is just a message away, 24/7.
An eSIM is a digital SIM that's already built into your phone — there's no tiny plastic card to pop into a tray. You simply scan a QR code and your data plan is ready to go. No shop visits, no posting, no waiting around.
Straight away. The moment your payment goes through, we email your eSIM and QR code — usually within a minute or two. Keep an eye on your inbox (and your spam folder, just in case) and you're all set.
We've got you covered in over 190 countries and regions — across Europe, Asia, the Americas, Africa, the Middle East and beyond. You can see exactly where each plan works right on its product page before you buy.
Each plan lives on a single device, so it can't be shared across your phone and tablet at the same time. Travelling with more than one device? Just grab a separate plan for each — they install in seconds.
No need to rush. Your QR code stays valid until you install and activate it. The countdown only begins once your plan is active — so if you bought a 7- or 30-day plan, that's when the clock starts ticking.
Only for the setup itself. You'll need Wi-Fi (or any internet connection) to scan the QR code and download your eSIM. After that you're free to roam — no Wi-Fi needed to get online with your plan.
Most phones from the last few years are eSIM-ready — including iPhone XS and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and up, Google Pixel 3 and later, and plenty more. Quick check: open your phone settings and look for an 'Add eSIM' option, or take a look at the device list on the product page.
Absolutely. When you're running low, just buy another plan for the same destination and it'll be ready in seconds. Some plans support direct top-ups too — you'll see that option on the plan's product page.
Yes — and it's one of the best things about eSIM. Your phone can run two SIMs at once, so you can keep your home number live for calls and texts while SimYak quietly handles your data abroad.
Your connection simply pauses or slows down depending on your plan — there are no surprise charges, ever. To get back up to speed, just buy and install a fresh plan and you'll be online again in moments.
SimYak plans are data-only, so they're built for internet rather than traditional calls. The good news: you can still call and message over data using your favourite apps — or keep your home SIM switched on for regular calls and texts.
Yes — as long as you've got data, your everyday apps keep working just like they do at home. WhatsApp, iMessage, FaceTime, Messenger and the rest all run happily over your SimYak connection, so you can call and message friends and family wherever you land.
Your ICCID is the unique ID number for your eSIM — a bit like a serial number. You'll rarely need it, but it's handy if you ever get in touch with us about your plan. On iPhone you'll find it under Settings → General → About, on Android it's in your SIM settings, and it's also listed in your SimYak order email.
The eSIM profile stays on your phone once your plan finishes, and in many cases you can bring it back to life with a new plan. Check your plan details to confirm — and if you're ever unsure, our team is happy to help.
It takes about a minute. Go to Settings → Mobile Data → Add eSIM, choose Use QR Code, then scan the code from your confirmation email. Follow the few on-screen prompts and you're done.
Head to Settings → Connections → SIM Manager → Add eSIM (the exact wording varies a little by phone), then scan the QR code from your confirmation email and follow the prompts. That's it — eSIM installed.
We'd suggest installing it a day or two before you travel — you don't need to be in your destination to set it up. Your plan's validity usually starts when you first connect or when you activate, so check the plan details and you'll know exactly when the clock begins.
First, check that you're connected to Wi-Fi and that your phone supports eSIM and isn't carrier-locked. Still stuck? Drop us a message and we'll sort it out, sending a fresh QR code right away. You won't be left offline.
It depends on where you're headed and how much data you need — and you'll always see the full price up front, with no hidden extras. Just pick your destination to see every plan and price laid out clearly before you buy.
You can pay securely with all major credit and debit cards, plus digital wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay where they're available. Everything's encrypted at checkout, so your details stay safe.
Of course. Your order confirmation email doubles as a receipt, and you can download a full invoice any time from your SimYak account. Need a VAT invoice or a small change to the details? Just message us and we'll sort it.
First, double-check your card details and that your bank isn't blocking the charge — international payments are sometimes flagged for security. Trying another card or browser usually does the trick, and if you're still stuck, our team will happily help you get it sorted.
You can see your remaining data any time in your SimYak account or app — so there are no surprises while you're away. When you're running low, topping up is only a tap away.
If your eSIM won't connect and we can't get it working, we'll always try to make things right — including a refund where our policy allows. Unused eSIMs that you haven't installed yet can usually be refunded too. Take a look at our refund policy, or just contact us and we'll take care of you.
Start with the basics: make sure data roaming is switched on, SimYak is set as your data line, and Airplane mode is off. A quick restart clears up a surprising number of issues too. Still nothing? We're one message away and happy to help.
Try toggling Airplane mode off and on, or manually pick a different network in your settings to grab a stronger signal. Busy spots like airports can slow things down for a bit, so moving location often helps. If it keeps dragging, let us know and we'll dig in.
Good news — there are no roaming charges on your SimYak data. To stay safe, switch OFF data roaming on your home SIM and use SimYak as your data line. That way you stay connected without any nasty surprise bill from your usual provider.
On iPhone, go to Settings → Mobile Data → Mobile Data and choose your SimYak plan. On Android, open your SIM Manager and set SimYak for mobile data. This makes sure you're online with your travel plan rather than your home network.
An eSIM is tied to the device it's installed on, so it can't usually be moved between phones. If you've switched devices, get in touch before reinstalling and we'll let you know the best option for your plan.
We're here around the clock. Email support@simyak.com, start a live chat, or use our contact form — whichever's easiest. Pop in your order number and a quick note on what's happening, and we'll get you back online fast.
Head to the account page and sign in with the email you used at checkout. Forgotten your password? Tap 'reset password' and we'll email you a link to set a new one in seconds.
You can update your name, email and preferences any time in your SimYak account settings. Need to change the email linked to an existing order? Just message us and we'll update it for you.
You're free to close your SimYak account whenever you like. Get in touch and we'll permanently remove your account and personal data in line with our privacy policy. (Heads up: any active plans will end when the account is closed.)
There is! The SimYak app is the easiest way to buy plans, install your eSIM, keep an eye on your data and chat with support — all in one place. You'll find it on both the App Store and Google Play.
